Fabric, IKEA, what?? Yes I made a dress with Fabric from IKEA. [Simplicity Dress 1755 Pattern Review]

This is how it all started on a Sunday morning, me a hot cup of tea, fabric and a pattern! My daughter Mori picked out this fabric on one of our IKEA outings. She said she could see a short sleeve  dress with roll up sleeves and a puffy bottom. She went on to say she would add a cute cardigan to complete the look.

I bought the fabric and of course it was sitting in my sewing room for a minute and I picked out this Leanne Marshall pattern from my Simplicity pattern stash and I knew this would do the trick. What I did not realize at the moment was that my owl cup would play a roll in this adventure! How you say? Well when I looked for buttons for the sleeves I found these owl buttons I had in my stash. When we went to take pictures I had this beautiful owl necklace that my sister gave me and thus it competed the look! Owls are in the house! Whoooo, Whooooo!

Pattern Description: Leanne Marshall Dress
Pattern Sizing: 4-12 I cut pout size 10
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope? Amazingly yes!
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes
Fabric Used: Cotton Blend [I'm pretty sure this fabric is for upholstery] but it's not super thick it has a nice weight.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: None, I created the dress  per their instructions to the T.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes I will sew this again and absolutely I would recommend this to everyone. It may be just a tad bit tricky for a beginner but it can be done, the collar area would probably be the most challenging part on this construction.
Conclusion: I love this little dress and Mori loves it so it's a win, win situation.

    1. Thanks, sometimes I am able to plan the look and sometimes we are grabbing the camera for pictures literally running out the door just grabbing jewelry. The shoes are definitely the planned accessories.

    1. Heeeeey Anita! What's up Lady? You know what I am amazed at how much everyone loves this fabric. This was totally a dress that resulted in Mori's taste, because she picked this fabric. I'm not sure I would have picked this one so kudos to that girl Mori.

    1. Thanks! Believe it or not I got those buttons from Joann Fabrics in 2014. I should have gotten a few of them because I went back to get more and they do not have them anymore.

  14. That dress is beautifully made and looks adorable on her! I love Ikea fabric! It's usually always 60" wide and they do the best designs....I just sold some vintage bird fabric from Ikea on eBay but I kept some for myself. I saw a necklace made with the cut out birds on Pinterest and it made me think how their fabric is usually good for appliques too. I also saw a nice fleece jacket made from one of their $2 laser cut blankets.

    1. Thank you!! I can never leave that place without fabric. Are you talking about the bird fabric with the blue background? I bought some and made a clutch and a skirt out of that fabric. Check out my DIY'd page.
