Ruffles and Gingham, What a Perfect Match! [Sew What? Series DIY Top McCall's M7602]

[This DIY top was made for and modeled by my daughter Mori]
McCall's patterns have been off the hook this summer! I usually have a ton of Simplicity patterns on deck but McCall's is what's hot right now. This Top M7602 was a must have. I love this ruffle top and I did a little hacking to give it a tad bit more drama. Now I must admit that I bought the shoes first because I could not resist a gingham pair of shoes. Now here's the funny part, they aren't even for me but I figured I would sew Mori a top in gingham to compliment these beauties. The shoes are from shoedazzle

Let's talk about the pattern for a second. This was a fairly easy construction process once I figured out my hack. I did have to take in 1.5 inch on the front ends that wrap at the waist. I did not want to chance going down a size because of her bust.t But after completing this top, I know that a size 12 would fit her almost perfectly.

It's all about those ruffles!

    1. It was all because of the shoes that I found first. I had the pattern was in my to-make pile and once the shoes were purchased it was on to ordering gingham fabric to match. I don't like matchy-matchy all the time but this was the perfect time.

  2. You created something amazing with this top! I love how you added the chic looking ruffles extending down! It's very creative and very you! Mori looks fabulous! And to find material to match the shoes - you can't get any better than this! I'm loving it!

  5. I love it when a plan comes together! Instead of reading your blog completely through, I immediately looked up the pattern--then said, this doesn't look like the pattern. Duhhh, it's Michelle--the rules don't apply to her. I snickered to myself and finished reading your blog. I know--I can be such a silly willy at times. Love the use of two gingham sizes, and the matching shoes--another wowza. Hope Mori likes this one (but then again, I feel that way about everything you create). She looks great as always.

  12. I'm about to make this top and always look up photos to see if anyone else has tried it and their sewing notes. THIS IS JAW DROPPING. It looks so cute I just might have to run back to the fabric store and get myself some gingham. Job VERY well done!
