So the baby shower is all set and I am sure it's going to be fabulous, cause I saw some of the decor ideals for this event. Mylea wanted to use her maternity pictures as table toppers for the baby shower but she could not find the kind of dress she wanted for the pictures. She sent me a photograph and I told her I would make the dress for her. This is a Knit top, a little off the shoulders with a long floor length sheer chiffon bottom and a open in the front. We did our fittings while on lunch at work, I came home a whipped it up and TaaaDaaaaah!
Here is a super quick DIY for those precious Maternity photographs.
Simplicity 1070 [If you have a different pattern, please use that. This is the pattern I had on hand]
2 yards of knit fabric & Thread [to match fabric]
6 yards of sheer chiffon fabric 58 inches wide
Sewing machine & Sewing machine needle for knits/delicate fabrics
1. First thing you want to is cut out your pattern, this top pattern only has three pieces. You will need to extend the neckline for the off the should look. All I did was extend the neckline 1 inch from the should seam. This will make this a simi-off the should top.
2. Pin pattern to your fabric and cut out your pieces
3. Sew your pieces together, test to see if you have your desired neckline, you can always make trim the fabric to make it bigger. Also get your desired length for your top over the Baby Bump, I cut off about 8 inches to hit the top of her bump.
4. Now hem your neckline and sleeves per your pattern instructions
5. You’re almost in the home stretch now. We are using the 6 yard piece of Chiffon as it is, no cutting needed. Fold under and hem the sides and the bottom of the fabric [ no need to hem the top as we are going to be sewing that edge]
6. Now run two gather stitches along the top. Pull your gathers to fit around the bottom of your shirt the ends should meet in the center front of the top, which will be the opening to show the bump. Pin it together right sides together and sew. You are finished!!!
Of course her photo shoot was scheduled for the Sat that we had our snow storm......and that didn't happen. So this past weekend these lovely photographs were taken of this beautiful mother-to-be.
