DIY Active wear! #workoutgear

2017 Activewear

Let's get physical, physical. Let's get physical, physical. Let me hear your body talk. Let me hear your body talk...... I joined the Patternreview.com Active wear contest and let me tell you why I joined. I purchased a ton of active wear fabric before Christmas to make a few gifts, that never happened. This was an incentive for me to get some of the items made. I finished three pieces and  I'm blogging about two of them today.

I bought Mori these cool neon Puma's for Christmas and I knew I was going to make her something to wear with them. I needed a neon active wear fabric quick so I bought a RTW men's XL sweatshirt so that I could cut pattern pieces for my active wear. The sweatshirt was a $5.99 buy from Walmart and I was able to use almost all of it.

--Pattern Description:  McCalls 7261 Active wear
--Why active wear?: You need something that breathes and moves without restrictions when working out. That's why most people wear workout clothing.
--Pattern Sizing:  6-14 I used size 12
--Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?The pants yes, the top I made a few changes.
--Were the instructions easy to follow?Yes
--Fabric Used:Nylon/Lycra/Spandex/Sweatshirt Fleece and Mesh
--Where there any work out features in the pattern? The top has the thumb holes in the cuffs. You loop your thumb through so no wind gets down your sleeve while doing activities outdoors. Ideally you would put on gloves too.
--Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
The crotch was a little long for Mori, made some adjustments there.
The pants were not slim enough so I tapered them, I probably could use a size 10 next time.
I did also slim the top for a more fitted look, took off 1.5 in on each side tapered down from the armhole. Other than that I did a little more color blocking that the pattern calls for. I cut the sleeves in to two pieces. I also used fabric from a RTW sweatshirt for the neon color. I used the neck ribbing from the sweatshirt collar instead of the pattern piece for the front collar.
--Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I probably will not sew the shirt again because Mori works out in t-shirts and does not have use for the long sleeve tops. I will use the pant pattern again because she needs new work-out pants.
--Conclusion: Great pattern if you're looking to make a quick outfit and the pants are super fun because you can make each panel a different color...can you say rainbow?

  9. This is FABULOUS! Just absolutely fabulous! I knew exactly which pattern it was when I saw her because I just purchased the fabric for the same pattern yesterday. You put your stamp on it for sure. That mesh contrast killed it girl. I plan to use 3 colors for my color blocking. I can't wait to make this and I have to hurry because I'm doing mine as part of the Sew Much Talent February Challenge. I just love how you sew for your daughter and buy shoes to match her outfits. She is one blessed young lady. I wish you the best in the Pattern Review Contest. I'll have to go see what everyone is creating. Have a great day, Michelle!
