SEW WHAT?.....A dashiki shirt dress. that's what! [Pattern review]

 McCall's M6124 [Shirt/Dress pattern   used view E]
I had my SHIRT dress cut out in a cool camera print for myself, it's sitting there ready to go. But what had happened was, this red dashiki fabric that I had been waiting on for over a month finally arrived and that is when I decided to use the shirt dress pattern to make a jacket for "you know who" [if you don't know who, it's my daughter Mori, the face of that black chic] I am going to make mine tonight, I have to get it done as part of a face book sewing group challenge, nothing like last minute sewing, gotta love it!
Pattern Description: Long sleeve shirt dress [made for and modeled by my daughter]
Pattern Sizing: No issues
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern? Yes
Were the instructions easy to follow? YES! YES! YES! visuals and directions were clear and easy to follow.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? The garment was super easy to sew, I did not have any issues.
Fabric Used:African Dashiki print cotton [challenging print to use on this project, placement could render most of the fabric useless.]
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:  I did not add the buttons or the button holes. I am using my shirt as a open front jacket to showcase he fabric.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? YES!
Conclusion: The pattern has five different views that you can make. This will be a staple shirt pattern that I am sure I will use again and again.

    1. Thanks Faye! For this one the only outside the box I had to do was choosing a fabric, the design is pretty simple.

  2. Exquisite work and a lovely idea for that coat dress. Your attention to detail is phenomenal. Crazy, but I think the cuffs are actually my favorite part. BTW, your daughter is beautiful and wears your work very well....

  5. Awesome as all your pieces are! Where did you find the fabric? It is hard to get authentic dashiki fabric. Most vendors sell the imatations,

    1. I bought this from a wholesale supplier. I have gotten authentic fabrics on Etsy as well. I do use imitation prints as well, some of the garments that I make are just for show. Thanks for stopping by !

    1. That back seam was a struggle, the pattern was simple but trying to make sense of the dashiki design left me with a lot of wasted fabric. It was worth it though I love this look.

  17. This is stunning! How much fabric did you start out with? I know you said you wasted a good amount, but I always find something to do with my scraps so I'm okay with that.
