When Ikea Gives You Oranges, You Make A Dress! [Sew What: Simplicity 8636]
Hey, hey, hey, when life takes you on a journey, you go to @ikeausa and buy oranges! Well orange printed fabric, you get what I mean! I
have had this print in my fabric stash for over 2 years so, it was about time
to put it to use. I am trying really hard to use fabrics from my stash for the
remainder of 2019, instead of purchasing new pieces. But I will put this disclaimer
out there, it doesn’t count if someone gives me fabric!
Summer fun awaits this baby-doll dress by Cynthia Rowley for Simplicity #8636.
Although there was a lot of gathering for this dress it was such a dream to put
together that I made 2 at the same time! (the other dress will debut on the
Minerva Craft blog in July…. it’s epic!) This pattern is a great choice for
little effort with grand results!!

Street Style: Sequin Pajamas with Stylish Fabrics
Pajamas ain't just for the bedroom anymore! Have you ever considered creating Pajamas that you can wear outside of the bedroom? We've witnessed this style the past few years and when I was given the opportunity to work with Stylish Fabrics (sponsored) I decided to make it happen.
I used the Carolyn Pajama pattern for this project. I added 3" to the pant length because Mori would be wearing these pants with heels but I ended up removing 2" of the length in the end. I had to conceal all the seams with bias tape since I was going for the see-through look with this set. Adding the bias tape also stopped any sequins that were in the seams from touching the skin.
I chose this Silky Satin Chiffon. I had never worked with this type of fabric before and it was totally the wrong choice for the facing of the pajamas. This fabric is super slinky and shifts its shape with every movement. I had to use a woven interfacing to give it a little structure and it was still hard to maneuver. Keep this type of fabric in mind for draping.
This look will be featured in the May/June issue of Sewn magazine,
along with quick tutorial on how I created the clean interior for these pajamas.
Here's a sneak peek on that photo shoot.

A Little Red Lip DIY
I love a red lipstick! We threw my sister a 50th birthday party and she wanted a painting party at "Painting With a Twist." We had to choose a picture for her guests to paint, we looked through the billion and one paintings that they had and chose this lipstick painting. So I ran with the lipstick theme and found this cute lip & lipstick printed cotton and figured I would make the ladies a cosmetic bag. We also decided to give each lady a wineglass to hold their wine while painting. Well we couldn't just give them any old wine glass. I told Mori she could use the cricut machine that's just sitting there! Now up t this point we used the cricut to make one card and I used it for two fabric projects, we hadn't used it for vinyl. Luckily we had a friend come over and make sure we were on the right track. So 14 glasses, 14 cosmetic bags and 14 lunchboxes later, we were ready for a party!
My sister and everyone who come had a great time!
Kisses & Red Lipstick!
