I have to tell ya I ain't no Vogue pattern sewing Sista! I know some people love their patterns but I must say that I am not that Chic. I buy them occasionally because they do have some of the most unique designs but it's not very often. When I saw this pattern I fell in love with this skirt and the bonus was that it is a easy vogue pattern, I was winning the day I bought this sucker. I will say if you are new to sewing it may not be that easy for you to fit these panels but if you take your time you should be able to work it out.
I had planned on making a few of these for one post but then I went and decided to make this easy skirt into something extra [ya'll know how I am]. I knew I wanted to make a denim version so I measured and cut out strips of all different hues of denim and then I sewed them together into one big piece of fabric and cut out my pattern pieces. That was a very interesting process. I added top-stitching to the panels but I also realized that I liked the way it looked without the top-stitching as well. Mori likes it without the top-stitching so I will at some point make another one for her and keep this skirt on display in my sewing space.
Now on to these boots. Sooo I wanted a knee high boot that would remind me of the 70'S and I lucked up on these boots. I knew I was going to do something with them so the color didn't really matter. I decided to add denim to these babies instead of painting them. Now These boots only cost me $10.00 and I knew they would only be used for these photos so I could do all the experimenting that I wanted to do, without pause. I just started gluing strips of denim on the boots with Mod Podge and this is what happened. I think they came out pretty cool for photographing. Now I have to let you know that Mori was OK with the skirt but she was not really feeling these boots at all. I knew she would not like the boots when I bought them but it's my photo shoot and I'm the boss!

I really like the skirt and what you did with the topstitching! Those boots remind me of being a teenager in the 70s - ummmm not something I want to return to so I'm with Mori on them! I'm really impressed that your daughter models all of your creations for you. That is soooooo cool!
ReplyDeleteAhh come on, I would have rocked those boots just because nobody else had them. ! Thanks Carolyn, it's been pretty amazing sharing these moments with Mori even though the starts to the photo shoots a rough and I put on my Momma hat to get her in line with the task at hand! lol!
DeleteI'M with Mama although not a blackchic. :) I only had white gogo boots back then and would have LOVED such a talented Momma to do this for me - even today! The skirt fits beautifully and the boots put the perfect finish to the outfit. She looks gorgeous! Only just saw your upstyle post today - and am so impressed. Not a sewer (by machine) - I knit instead, so am doubly impressed by how you managed to put those strips of denim together as well. Fantastic job!
DeleteLoooooove the skirt!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks this is one I'm super proud of!
DeleteWow too cute!
DeleteYour skills are awesome Michelle!! I love this skirt! (and the boots too!)
ReplyDeleteThanks Myra!
DeleteGorgeous use of that denim! Love it!
ReplyDeleteThanks, I love denim and would live in jeans if I could!
DeleteAbsolutely gorgeous those boots are bangin tho!!! You should do a tutorial on the skirt.....plleeeeaaase!!!
ReplyDeleteIf Santa brings me a new video camera for Christmas, I got you! I see you over there with you denim re-fashion!
DeleteYou are so creative! You can rock denim so many ways. When are we going to see you in front of the camera?
ReplyDeleteThanks Girl! As for me in front of the camera I get in front it every once and a blue moon. I admire those full figure chicks who ain't afraid to get in front of the lenses but I ain't one of them. I hate almost every full shot picture of me so I take picture of others who are more pleasing to the eyes! But I'mma throw one in the mix soon!
DeleteThat is so cute! Is it wrong of me to want her hair a lot less straight?
ReplyDeleteEither way, I love your creativity, and your daughter is beautiful.
No it would not be wrong because like it curly but for this shoot the straight worked better with this look. Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteSeriously awesome sewing.
ReplyDeleteThank you Kathy.
DeleteThe beauty that comes alive through your hands,BREATHTAKING !!! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Lady! I gotta stay on my toes.
DeleteGreat skirt! Love the process of making the panels. Your daughter is adorable.
ReplyDeleteThanks Eileen! This was one of the ones I had fun making for sure.
DeleteFantastic! Love the stripes and chevrons, and the topstitching is a great detail!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteOh my, you are so creative! This skirt is very '70s but modern at the same time!
ReplyDeleteI always try to add a little extra-ness to my projects, I'm special that way. It doesn't always work out but this did.
DeleteStop it! I said doggone STOP IT! I'm just done! Your creativity makes my head spin. You cut strips of denim and creativity makes my head spin. You cut strips of fabric and create your own designer fabric?! As if that wasn't enough, you go and cut strips of denim and cover the boots with it?! Who does thaaaaat?! Michelle Morris--that's who! Girl, you are on a whole different planet with your skills! Amazing! Standing ovation! Work it, sista! Work it!
ReplyDeleteWell what can I say [*popping my collar] Just kidding I ain't that vain but thank you so much. I dig it when someone is picking up what I'm putting down.
DeleteOh my, I love it. I think I might lose my mind with all that top stitching.
ReplyDeleteI almost lost my mind trying to keep it straight! lol!!
DeleteOMG. Love, love, love it. That skirt though! What??? And those boots...I'd rock them in a heartbeat right now! I made Jalie Eleanore jeans this week and for the first time used topstitching thread...loved it. Keep doin' ya thang gurl!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lady, I always g=have enjoyed top-stitching but this one was a little nerve racking because there was such a contrast and a LOT of top-stitching. But it all worked pout in the end. As for the boots my child does not like square toed or pointy toed shoes, so I knew those boots were going to be a bust for her. I am just glad I was able to find them super cheap. Thanks for stopping by.
DeleteThanks for sharing this article how you made the skirt! I simply love the colors and pattern of the fabric you used! Awesome pair of boots to pair it up with!
ReplyDeleteRight are those boots the best? I love them, she hates them, oh well I got some cool pictures at least!
DeleteAll I gotta say is you are the coolest sewing blogger ever!! This blows me away. LOVE your style!
ReplyDeleteI like it! My kids would beg to differ but who are they anyway! Thank you sooo much I'm feeling all groovy right now!
DeleteWow, that skirt is awesome!! I wish I had the patience and sewing skills necessaries to do one. And the boots are to die for!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing with us at Two Uses Tuesday!
Hugs,
Pili
Thank you for stopping by! That skirt is super cool, I must agree. Oh and the boots are my pride and joy.
DeleteI'm speechless, so I'm not sure what to comment, but I had to say SOMETHING about this amazing piece and the whole look. Your vision is extraordinary and I love to see what you create. This one floored me.
ReplyDeleteI am amazed that my work has that affect on you.**patting my own back** Helena thank you so much and honey that's what I'm here for so 'I'm feeling all fuzzy inside that I accomplished my goal.
DeleteWow - killer skirt. And so nicely finished. Good call on the boots - they totally make the photo shoot!
ReplyDeleteThanks Noelle, I loooovvvvveee those boots so much!
