Color-Blocking like a Boss! [Sew What? Series Simplicity Dress Pattern 8094]

[This outfit was made for and modeled by my daughter Mori]

First off let me say my original post for this dress was for Fabric Mart. I chose these linen hues from their enormous Linen collection. I just wanted to share this color-blocking goodness with my Peeps!

I treated this fabric dirty from the beginning. I threw it in the salt-water on a regular cycle and then I threw it in the dryer on high. YES, I did and I’ll do it again, I tell ya. Why did I do it you ask? Well unless I am working with a delicate or formal wear fabric, I want to try it like I don’t have a care in the world. I want to see how this fabric will react if it was accidentally washed in the machine or maybe mistakenly thrown in the dryer...on high, what will happen? If it all works out I will have eliminated any possible shrinkage and bleeding before I make my garments. There was shrinkage but not too much. I always buy a little extra just for this reason.
So I had my fabric and my pattern Simplicity 8094 the maxi sleeveless version of the top/dress and the shorts. I used a size 12 for Mori and I'm thinking that it could have been a little bigger around her arm-circle and neckline. It was fitting just right so I think the next time I will go up in size, she wants a few knit versions of this dress.  I will also like to make the shorts wider in the legs.

Color-Blocking was always the plan but How to do it was the question. I decided after seeing a few statement necklaces that would be the way to go. I cut out a few shapes, put them together and got busy. The black bias trim makes those pieces POP right off that dress...don’t cha think?

...and this is where we end our post, checking in on the blog!
