Yeah Baby rocking the Floral Birkin jeans! [Sew What? Series Birkin Flare Pattern by Baste and Gather]

[These jeans were made for and modeled by my daughter Mori]

I am obsessed with sewing jeans right now! I have been participating in a jean pattern testing for a super cool pattern company and  now I can't stop. These will make my fourth pair of jeans in the past two months. I am in the process of getting a heavy duty machine that I am going to use just for my denim sewing because the machine I have right now can't handle denim too well especially when I try to use top stitching thread. But I am still perfecting  the jeans in the mean time.

My original post was for Fabric Mart HERE but I wanted to introduce a blazer in the mix as an alternative, here on my blog. I chose this big floral denim fabric  from Fabric Mart that worked out wonderfully. **WARNING:This post is flower heavy and it may be too much for ya but we decided to go all in with the flowers,  this is what I do! [Blazer is RTW]
I  had my eyes on this  Birkin Flares pattern by Baste and Gather every since it came out.  I know you have seen these babies all over the Internet looking as fabulous as ever. Lauren did a great job with this pattern. I love the look of these jeans and the construction was a breeze. The zipper install is by far the best install for jeans E-V-E-R!!! The only modifications that I had to make was taking 1 inch off the waist on each side. I made size 30 and the waist measurement I needed was 28" and I added two inches to the length to allow a 4 inch heel. After it was all said and done I did not need to add a whole two inches to the length but better safe than sorry. Mori usually wears skinny jeans all the time so the fact that these were form fitting jeans at the top and flare at the bottom, they worked out great.

Now here are the details as I was sewing these babies!

This pattern advises to hammer the belt loops to get them flat for sewing, it really does work!
Flower power to the people and a big thanks to Lauren over at Baste & Gather for this marvelous pattern. The review of this pattern were my own thoughts  and I definitely recommend this pattern if you're looking to make a pair of flare jeans! This for sure is one of my favs!

  4. Amazing! Seriously, this floral overload was just what I needed (alongside my coffee) to wake up this morning. I still haven't gotten used to the flared look, your floral jeans really work. Those jeans also really work for your booty - just saying... I went mad sewing jeans a while back, but I think I overdid it. I'll wait for a bit and then get on it again. Who knows, maybe I'll brave flares :)

    1. I'm glad I could help you bring in the new day! Yayyy! Yeah flare are an acquired taste. I definitely think you should try making jeans one more time, just go slow and if you can sew a pair of pants with a zipper you can do this!

    1. Thanks R, I officially love this pattern, The Ginger pattern has a flare jean as well and I like that one too and I think that one works better for a fuller figure it's not as narrow as the Birkins.

  10. Hey Sew Sis Michelle!
I have this Birkin pattern and said I was making it this weekend to recreate my extreme flare jeans and now you definitely have me convinced to do it! Everyone who uses the Birkin pattern says they love it so I am throwing my hat in the ring too and will let you know how it turns out! I'm going to use a stretch pastel blue denim I have in my stash I hope they look as fly as these!
