I took the July challenge for the Prettygirlssew.com to refashion a garment. I made a trip to my local thrift store and purchased a few items for this challenge. This was my Picasso find! I knew that I could take this 70's look and give it a modern day Boho vibe, and that's exactly what I did. This transformation was not a hard one because I knew I had to keep those sleeves in tack so I just cut the bottom, added some lace and two rows of ruffles...and ....whalaaaaa! [We had a little mishap getting this to the photo shoot to the front hem that got caught in the door, it was torn but the shoot had to go on!]
We decided to take a trip the the city, Philly that is and we landed on South Street at the Philadelphia Magic Gardens for this shoot. This is a place that was created using tile and other objects to cover the walls, create walkways, nooks and coves, this garden is a big attraction to the city. We did not even get to take the inside tour because it was crazy busy on Saturday. But we were still able to enjoy this work because the walls on the outside of the buildings and the alley way wall were all covered in paint and tile as well. So I took a few picture of the outside tile work and if you want to check it out for yourself, just Google Philadelphia Magic Gardens!
Tag #F21THREADSCREEN on any Instagram picture and it shows up on the Thread Screen in NYC. The thread screen has 6,400 spools of thread to create any picture!
Now for the front of the Philadelphia's Magic Gardens

The dress is gorgeous - such a one of a kind beauty. If only I could envision something as wonderful from dressing hanging in a thrift store. Guess I just need more practice. And thanks for sharing the Magic Garden.
ReplyDeleteYou know what Faye, I just go to the bigger sizes in the thrift store and look at the fabrics, if I see something I like and it's cheap enough I buy it. sometimes I may have an ideal right away but if I like the fabric I know I can always use it in one of my projects.
