The Stripes are Hot right now! [Sew What? Series: Simplicity 8124 Cynthia Rowley Dress]

Alrighty, here is the dress from Simplicity 8124. This is really a popular pattern, you can see it all over the internet. Off the shoulder fashions are going to be a must this summer! Now I know these shoes look familiar to you right? These were the shoes I Painted in one of my DIY posts HERE
I saw this fabric and I knew that it would make a lovely paring with these shoes so I grabbed 3 yards. When I saw this dress pattern, I knew  this was what I wanted to make with the fabric. I was also just in time for the stripe challenge with the Thred & Needles sewing group on Facebook. This pattern is super easy and can be made in a hour.

I had to go there with my pictures, since I was sewing with black and white, using black and white shoes, why not make my pictures black and white? Right? If you haven't noticed I follow my own rules and do what-ever excites my soul so filters are welcome on this blog. Now carry-on and look at all the pretty pictures.

  5. Michelle! Michelle! Michelle! I'm so tired of falling out on this floor from your creations. This is a straight massacre! You went way beyond killing it! That fabric took this simple dress to a whole different level. Then you had to go take it up a notch higher with the shoes. Girl, this is good insanity! I LOVE it!!! I just made this same dress in a coral eyelet fabric, and set it up to post tomorrow. Hoooooooney, you are gonna make EVERYBODY want this pattern with this look. The black & white photos--GENIOUS! I just LOVE you!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. It's hot for any age! I made a dress version of Hot Patterns off the shoulder blouse and I'm 65! I think Donna Karan said that the shoulders still look good as we age and I had no problem showing off my shoulders. You look fabulous in yours. It's oddly enough an ageless style. Love, love your shoes.

    1. Nancy I think I'm going to make myself one, this is my daughter in the pics. I'm thinking if I use a similar weight fabric it won't be too bad for my plus size. I just don't know about off the shoulders.

  8. Hey Michelle...wow..great work:) May I ask how many inches you added to the length of the dress?? It hits her at the perfect spot!!!

    1. Lora guess what? I didn't add any extra inches, I just turned my hem up about 1 1/2 inches instead of the wide hem that the call for in the pattern. Mori is about 5 ft 7" so it fell perfectly on her. I originally used the wide hem and it was too short for a dress.

  14. You did it again Sis. I love it from top to bottom. Is that a high low hemline?

    1. No it's not a high low hem. The fabric looks like that when adjusting the shoulders up and down.

  15. OMG! At first I couldn't believe how well the shoes matched and then I read "you painted them yourself". Blown away. And the only reason I can come up with for your beautiful daughter not having a modeling contract is she doesn't want one. Your creativity is off the charts. You are definitely a rock star!

  20. Hello I have a quick question, is the pattern pieces cut on the bias and do I need all of the yardage for the dress? Thank you and Keep Slaying!!!!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. No they are not cut on the bias. I already had my fabric on hand and I had way more than the pattern calls for so I am not sure if you will need all the yardage but the dress runs big.
