This was the dumbest ideal ever. Who paints stairs white?

So here is what I started with. These steps have been many colors and at one time covered with carpet.

My ideal was to paint them white like the walls and use wallpaper on the back parts.

I painted a little more than half with two coats. 

It looked awesome when I was done but a few days latter was this!

My kids were like Mom about those white steps. 

I said Yeah I know a stupid ideal so I'm going to 

paint navy stripes with thin white stripes, so we shall see.
