DIY: Pattern Cabinet Stripe Make-Over

So one day I was minding my own business visiting the local Joann Fabrics on my lunch hour. I was strolling through the store looking for something to buy. I decided that I needed some more denim fabric, because as you know, you can never have too much denim fabric or any other fabric for that matter. Heather [yep we know each other well] was cutting this necessary denim fabric and I noticed a sign on the counter, now I had seen this sign before but I just ignored it. I took a closer look at the sign that read" Store fixtures for sale includes cabinets." I said to Heather, what cabinets? She said "the pattern cabinets." Me "seriously?" She said they are $10.00. I then went to pick out the cabinet that I wanted, paid the $10.00 and scheduled my pick-up date.

Since I had already started turning my basement into my new sewing room, I had to do a  little modification to fit this cabinet but make no mistake it was going to be a part of my sewing room. Now that it had a new home, it was time to make this cabinet fit in with my new sewing area, that meant it had to be painted or covered some how. I decided to use wrapping paper and Mod Podge on this baby. Now the trick was to choose the wrapping paper, I decided on this stripe paper that I also used inside a small bookshelf. I had done this treatment before so it was a breeze to apply after the stickers were all removed from the cabinet. The cabinet is finished and I am almost finished with the entire sewing room. I am including a sneak peek of a few of the accessories in the room.

So here is a little peek at what else is going on in this room....only a peek!

  5. Hi there !! I have the same cabinet which I had to have the bottom powder coated because it was in such bad condition. The inside is perfect ... BUT, do you have any idea how to get the drawers out ? I have googled, YouTubed and everything I can think of... thanks for anything you may know to help me out !!!

    1. Sorry but better late than never! Did you get the drawers out? I bet they are not made to be removed because they are for retail use. If they come out that could be a liability for the store...just a thought.
