Did you see my fabric? Seriously are you looking at this fabric??? I purchased this bold Maggy London print from Fabric Mart. [they had about 20 yards on hand when I made this post] I used a J. Crew lime/neon cotton voile for the lining which is no longer in stock.
Pattern Description: Misses' & Plus Size Coat by Mimi G Style. Simplicity 1016 pattern Views A&B
Pattern Sizing: AA 10-18
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes
Were the instructions easy to follow? This pattern was fairly easy to sew and if you need visual sewing help MimiG has tutorials for all her patterns which is super cool. I did peep this one so that I would be able to say it is helpful. If you're a beginning sewist, then this would be a bonus for you, click HERE. I made this coat in all of 4 sewing hours, which did not include prep time.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I fell in love with the sleeve installation for this coat it was the highlight of this pattern for me. The finish gives the coat a professional look.
Fabric Used: Navy/Avocado/Cream Poly/Lycra Large Floral Stretch Twill Suiting. J. Crew lime/florescent green cotton voile for the lining
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I opted not to add buttons on this coat and keep it open since this is a spring coat and it has a belt that would help to keep the coat closed if need be...........side note: I determined for my pictures that if you're wearing the coat with the cape it looks better with buttons, so the top stays closed which the cape is on.
**I also made my own belt buckle out of two metal circles I had in my sewing supplies. I have no ideal why they were in my supplies but I used them. The belt is pretty epic if I do say so myself, and I do say so myself!
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes and Yes!!
Conclusion: I like this coat s lot and I think next winter I will make myself one of these babies.
I love he cape and I love he look,
I hope you do too.
Love this! It is definitely the fabric that makes this stunning. I like your version better than the one on the envelope.
ReplyDeleteRight this fabric is off the hook! I love this coat, I still have a little of this fabric left, may make a pair of pants?
DeleteGAH....that fabric is fantastic! What an awesome make!!!!

DeleteYour daughter is wearing that coat...beautiful choices down to every detail. Michelle could you do a tutorial on the snaps you added and the belt you made? He would just take my sewing to the next level:)
ReplyDeleteI will put this on my tutorial list but it's super easy you can do it by reading the instructions on the package. I am going to make a post on fabric covered belts as well, stay tuned!!
DeleteYour name should be the That Bad Azz Chic! The coat is AWWW-mazing and the fabric choice is phenomenal.
ReplyDeleteI like that, we'll keep that name on the low-low though! Thank you Boo!
Deletenice I have the pattern I guess I was a little scare because of all of the pieces...I will attempt but without the buttons I love this you are such an inspiration.
ReplyDeleteDON'T be scared of this pattern because it is super easy and there is a sew-along to help you visually while making this coat, that's one thing that is pretty cool about MimiG.
DeleteOnce again, you've amazed me. I can't believe you sewed this coat in 4 hours. I'm working on this coat and cape right now and there's no way I could do it in that record time. I love all the photos, detailing the construction of the coat. Your sewing is impeccable. Those stitches are perfection.
ReplyDeleteNow remember Anita that was only the sewing time, no tailoring for this coat. I used the required interfacing, this is a quick and easy coat. baadaabing baadaaboom!
