Tag I'm it! #SeamstressTag

It's a seamstress tag! I was tagged by Jocy who is a fabulous DIYer  who you may know as Pink Chocolate Break on YouTube. I accept this tag and now I'mma let ya'll know a little more about me. So let's get started shall we?

1. Who are you?
Me: This is easy, my name is Michelle............Oh you want a little more to go with that? OK let me start over. My name is Michelle and I'm blogging in my little corner of the internet under the guise of ThatBlackChic. I love buying glasses just as much as I love buying  fabric. To know me it to know that Denim gives me life! I have three kids and the last little man is a senior and I can't wait to ship him off to college. I want to knock down the walls between the two bedrooms when he leaves, so that I can make a sewing suite upstairs. I'm not sure how that will help with the resale value of our home but it would make me very, very happy. I'm a home body so spending time at home makes me happy, along with late night cupcake making adventures with my daughter. Lastly I'm embarking on a project to publish a sewing magazine featuring African American makers....stay tuned.

2. When & why did you start sewing?
Me: Well I'll give you my come-back to sewing story. After starting my blog in Sept of 2013 I discovered sewing blogs. I found Mimi G on Facebook which lead me to the internet searching for other sewing bloggers. My blog was not intended to be a sewing blog but people went crazy when I posted a few things that I had sewn and that's when I jumped back into sewing full-force. [The Owl Pants was my first sewing post. I hadn't sewn in over 20 years] The why would be because I rekindled my love for being able to take a piece of fabric and make it into wearable art.
3. What is your favorite or proudest make?
Me: I have two that were made by way of the "Rippin Ain't Easy" sewing contest that I won in 2015. The first was that gold dress dress that I made using trash bags and the finally bejeweled tiered gown.
4. What is your most disastrous make?
Me: Seriously we have to talk about this? OK so when I was sewing back in middle school, I made myself a pair of pleated pants that were "The BOMB" Now I was new to sewing so I didn't really know about sizing patterns for other people, My friends were like make me a pair and I was like hell yeah I'll make ya'll some pants. I'm just going to end it like this, my friends were great and I now know to measure inseams!

5. Where is your favorite place to go fabric shopping?
Me: Fabric Mart is on the top of my list right now.
6. What is your most used pattern?
Me: The two patterns that I have sewn over and over are  Simplicity 1421 blazer and Baste and Gather's Birkin Jean pattern

7. Your most dreaded sewing task is.
Me: Zippers used to irk me.......oh wait button holes were even worse!  It took me years to master both but one thing I still dread to this day is those damn collar points. I feel like I avoid them because I know I am going to do some ripping out before I get a satisfying point.
8. And your favorite sewing task?
Me: Working with denim, especially re-cycled denim. Is that a task? If it's not then I say making Jeans!
9. What is your favorite 'sewing entertainment'?
Me: I'm with Jocy on this one, not quite sure how to answer this question. But what I can tell you what's not entertaining. When my husband decides he wants to spend some time chatting and comes into my basement sewing room with a plate of food! That is certainly not entertaining in the least. But I love checking out all the sewing blogs I follow and finding new blogs.

10. Printed or PDF?
Me: I'm thinking this is a trick question right?? It has to be!! I'm sure of it so I'm not even going to answer this one.

11. What sewing machine do you use?
Me: BERNINA 350PE and I'm in heaven as a BERNINA Ambassador representing the brand. The machine I used prior which is my stand-by machine Brother SQ9185
12. Do you have any other hobbies?
Me: Photography and anything to do with ART.

  2. Hi Michelle,
I was waiting for your post! ;)
I am so happy you tagged me and the other ladies (I adore Erica Bunker), can't wait to get to know the others a bit more.
You are amazing! To me you seem to be a very kind, clever and above all a very generous person (sewing for your daughter... and I love the story about your pants in middle school).
I can't wait to answer the questions (I think I'll publish this blogpost on Wednesday).
    You are really an inspiration!
    Thank you for tagging me!
    Greetings from Germany.
