DIY: Sewing Vintage Stripes

Sew Project #4 of 20. I know it's been a minute but I got side tracked making other things that will not count towards my 20 patterns. I'm back on track and fiercely sewing my Butt off. So I had these summer tops that I need to get done before the summer is over. I used one pattern but two different tops. This is  1950's Vintage Simplicity 1426 view C. I was a little concerned with this top because of the flap that goes across the top. This is why I liked this top but I knew it was going to give me some trouble. It wasn't as bad as I thought, I took my time and it was not bad, not bad at all. Guess what I wasn't really trying to match the stripes but it worked itself out. the flap stripes are on a diagonal , laying flat they match up but not when it's on. I will make my daughter more of these tops next summer.

The pattern: It flowed smoothly and directions were pretty easy, you just gotta read them. Make sure you put all your markings on your fabric.

We took our Vintage tops to the malt Shop for our photo shoot. We had to be swift because there was nothing but old people in the Malt shop and we didn't want to give them a show with these bra tops. I was afraid they were going to kick us out but they didn't, so here you go.

  7. Thanks for posting about this pattern! I'm half way through and the top bands looks so weird to me with the way they are separate from the cups - but it is totally cute on you! I was discouraged, but I'm going to keep going.

  8. Hi Michelle. I'm currently making this top but I'm a little confused in step 3 where you have to pin the flap to the front. The instructions says to stretch the flap to fit the front. But it's kinda impossible. The flap piece is too short for the front piece to match up perfectly. How did you get yours to work? Thanks.

    1. Nadia,
I hope you worked this out because I just saw this comment. My pictures above show everything matching and I don't really remember having issues with pieces fitting.
