How long does it take to decorate a bedroom? [DIY Interior Design]

So if you've been following me, you would already know that my daughter Mori [that chic who models all my designs] moved into her very first apartment last November. So apparently it takes us a little over a year to decorate a bedroom! I know what you must be thinking but let me break it down for ya.

When Mori moved out the only things she had were her mattress set and a 40" flat screen TV. She had a little saved up to buy somethings but when we started shopping for her furniture reality set in that "she didn't have money to buy all the things that she WANTED. I gave her a bed frame, kitchen table & chairs and a few other things for Christmas. She financed her living room furniture and with the little money she had left bought a few  necessities. The well was dry!

As you can imagine by this time she had already had to make her first rent payment and boy was that a rude awakening for her. She was like Mom, I just got paid and I don't have any money left. I said welcome to the real world  honey. So I say all that to say this, she realized she was not going to be able to buy the things she had in mind all at once, she had to buy them when she could, whenever she had a few spare dollars.

Now here is where having me as a mom paid off for her. I did several DIY projects for her apartment and I was picking things up here and there for her. I would see something and say oh my that is cute and I know exactly where it can go in Mori's apartment. I was buying so many things I had to get myself in check. I said "Michelle this is not your apartment STOP shopping for her", sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't. All I know is I had  a little boutique in my garage with all the things I was buying. Sooooooo now you know WHY it took us a little over a year to get this bedroom done. But if I do say so myself it was worth the wait. Her apartment is almost complete, just need curtains in the living-room and kitchen and a few nic-nacks. [I swear I am not buying anything else even though I saw these really cute curtains...] OK now you can go ahead and enjoy her new bedroom.

Here are all the posts with projects for this apartment

    1. Thanks Hun, we started with that comforter that she has and added the colors. I had a vision for that headboard that brought the gold in the picture and everything else fell in place. Thanks so much for dropping by my little corner of the internet.

  4. I have a sister named Michelle. Unfortunately she does not have you decorating talent. She has a Whole bedroom as a closet and it is a mess. A Hot Mess. I have ideas just don't know how to fully execute them with her. Mori's room is so chic and glamorous and grownup. She is so blessed to have you.

    1. Thanks Victoria, your sister sounds like my son, That's why he has the smallest bedroom in the house! LOL!!!! Girl if you don't just put your ideals on paper and work them out! Organization is first, get rid of what is not necessary in the space, if she hasn't touched it all year get rid of it! [easier said then done] once you get it organized then you can start with your vision.

  7. You certainly have the decorator's touch! If this bedroom were in my house, it would have a velvet rope at the door (lol - like a museum display). Love the colors and accessories. I went through a similar journey when my baby girl moved out recently. I had to back off too and allow her to find her own way.

    1. Robin I soooo understand but wait you think I'm bad, when she was looking for an apartment my husband was not impressed with the apartments that she could afford and he said to me, "Michelle should we supplement her rent to help her get a nice apartment?" Me "HELL NO!" I said she has to do this on her own and she is doing a wonderful job I must say, she had to get a part-time job but she is making it work all by herself. [you know minus all the things I have bought for her, lol!!!]

    1. Thanks Gurl! Mori is loving it as well. I dabble in interior design mostly my own projects but it is something that I used to do for clients. It was just too competitive in my area dn I did not have enough resources back in the day.
