Sew What? Sewing with Cake that's what!

I participated with the Monthly Stitch for August and the theme was sew cake. Why the heck, you must be saying right now. This is the anniversary for the monthly stitch and they are celebrating my sewing cake! I decided to purchase a Cake Pattern for this months sew. I purchased my pattern from their Etsy shop. OK so I'm new to ordering PDF patterns and I thought I bought a shirt & skirt pattern but I only bought the shirt so I had to try and find a skirt that was sorta like the skirt I thought I bought and that  was McCalls M5430 a wrap around skirt with pockets. Now I was all set.

I decided I was actually going to make this outfit for myself. When I finished this skirt and tried it on, I was like nooooooo waaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy am I wearing this. I looked like a beached whale in this skirt. The fabric is stiff so I think that was the problem and it didn't sit well with my full figure. So all I had to do is make a seam down the back and my  daughter now has my icing. The top fits us both because it wraps, it just wraps around a few more times on her.

I will say next time sewing this Pavlova wrap blouse I will make  few modifications. I will make it longer to hit my hips and either make the sleeves longer and Dolman or a Peasant Sleeve might be interesting. I modified the pockets on this skirt, I made them bigger and added two pleats in each. Both patterns were easy projects and I will use each pattern again. (#7 & #8 of 20 patterns)

The top is my cake and this skirt is the icing on the cake, can you say yummy! The chocolate flower cup cake was a bonus. The yummies are from our local Bakery.

  1. I was doing ok until you showed all the photos of the cakes - aagh, I'm going sugar free and having withdrawals! Seriously though, this whole outfit is divine - including the shoes! Did you get the blouse back from your daughter or is it gone?
